    Introduction

    The unit of District & Sessions Judge, Bengaluru Rural District was established as per G.O. No. LAW 172 LCE 76 dated 30.06.1978. The Court of District & Sessions Judge, Bengaluru Rural District is functioning with effect from 24.07.1978. The headquarters of District & Sessions Court, Bengaluru Rural District is situated at Bengaluru City.

    Juridiction

    As per Government Notification No. LAW 129 LCE 86 dated 31.07.1986, the jurisdiction of District & Sessions Court, Bengaluru Rural District comprises the area of revenue districts of Bengaluru and Bengaluru Rural excluding the city of Bengaluru. Salient feature is that the District & Sessions Court, Bengaluru Rural District has jurisdiction over two districts i.e. Bengaluru Urban District (excluding the city of Bengaluru) and Bengaluru Rural District.

    Brief Facts

    • At present Tweleve District & Sessions Courts, Three Courts of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Nine Courts of Senior Civil Judge and Five Courts of Civil Judge are functioning at Bengaluru.
    • One District and Sessions Court each is functioning at Anekal, Devanahalli and Doddaballapura taluks.
    • Three Courts of Senior Civil Judge are functioning at Anekal, four Courts of Senior Civil Judge are functioning at Devanahalli, Two Courts of Senior Civil Judge are functioning at Doddaballapura, one court of Senior Civil Judge is functioning at Hosakote and three courts of Senior Civil Judge are functioning at Nelamangala.
    • Five Courts of Civil Judge & JMFC are functioning at Anekal, three Courts of Civil Judge & JMFC are functioning at Devanahalli, Three Courts of Civil Judge & JMFC are functioning at Doddaballapura, three Courts of Civil Judge & JMFC are functioning at Hosakote and five Courts of Civil Judge & JMFC are functioning at Nelamangala.
    • District Legal Services Authority has been established for Bengaluru Rural District and the same is effectively performing its duty by providing necessary help to the needy litigant public and conducting legal awareness camps very frequently. Likewise, Taluk Legal Services Committee have been set up in all the five Taluks of Anekal, Devanahalli, Doddaballapura, Nelamangala and Hosakote to provide legal services to the needy people.
    • Many cases are being disposed of by way of compromise through Lok-Adalaths. Mega Lok-Adalaths are also conducted, frequently.
    • All the Courts of Bengaluru Rural District are computerised. Necessary library books are provided to each Court.
